Stagecoach Mountain Ranch (SMR) is a proposed 6100-acre private ski area in the vicinity of Stagecoach Reservoir that includes plans for 613 luxury homes alongside 137 workforce housing units, with 95 of those marked for affordable housing. It would be developed by Discovery Land Corporation, the developer of the Yellowstone Club just west of Big Sky Montana.
The proposal has generated considerable debate, both positive and negative, due to its perceived economic and social impacts. Keep Routt Wild has not taken a position on these issues, choosing to focus entirely on wildlife and other resource impacts, consistent with our charter.
Our interest in SMR goes beyond this individual project, as this will be one of the first major projects under the County’s new UDC (Unified Development Code) that addresses wildlife mitigation. Therefore, this project will set a precedent of how wildlife mitigation is treated in Routt County for years to come.
This page serves as a resource of important links related to SMR, with a focus on wildlife and habitat related issues.
