SEASONAL CLOSURES
Seasonal area closures close sensitive habitat to human disturbance during critical wildlife periods, such as birthing periods or winter seasons, when disturbance can be the most impactful. We ask that everyone honor these closures, whether they are stated as voluntary or mandatory, so we can keep the wonderful diversity of wildlife that currently inhabits Routt County.
These areas include elk production (calving areas) and ungulate winter range. The closure times for elk production areas are typically May 15 - June 30, while the winter closures are typically December 1 - April 30. Shed hunting is prohibited on public lands west of I-25 from January 1st through April 30th.
